Insight Types

When adding an insight to your map, it's important to know what type of insight is the most appropriate.

Each type of insight card – goal, pressure, initiative, obstacle and solution – has its own particular set of details.

Insight Type Details

Goal

Customer's relevant business goals

  • Who is the Key Player [account]/Decision Maker [opportunity] responsible for this goal? This is the key player who is responsible for achieving the goal. (There can be more than one.)
  • Who told you about this? Identifying the source of your insight helps establish trust in your map and a possible source of further information or confirmation.

Pressure

The business pressures affecting their goals

  • Pressure Type. Categorizing pressures can help you to build a coherent story with your insight map.
  • Goal(s) being impacted. The goals that are impacted by the pressure and how they are impacted.
  • Who is impacted by this Pressure? Alleviating the pressures impacting upon key players should be a priority.
  • Who told you about this? Identifying the source of your insight helps establish trust in your map and a possible source of further information or confirmation.

Initiative

The initiatives that the customer is undertaking to address these pressures so they can achieve their goals

  • Desired outcome. Explain how a successful initiative will impact upon the customer's goals.
  • Priority. (Low, Medium, or High) Funding and sponsorship are a good indication of the level of priority that the customer assigns to this initiative
  • Who is responsible for the success or failure of the initiative? You will want to elevate your relationship with this person or people if you are not already seen as a trusted advisor.
  • Who told you about this? Identifying the source of your insight helps establish trust in your map and a possible source of further information or confirmation.
  • Solutions. Which of your solutions will help the customer's initiative to succeed? You can link multiple solutions with an initiative.

Tip: Goals and Initiatives are often confused. A goal is what the customer wants to achieve. An initiative is how they are thinking of achieving the goal.

Obstacle

The obstacles that the customer needs to overcome

  • Who is impacted by this obstacle? The person currently impacted is often not a key player, but they may well influence key players.
  • Who told you about this? Identifying the source of your insight helps establish trust in your map and a possible source of further information or confirmation.
  • Solutions. Which of your solutions will remove this obstacle? You can link multiple solutions with an obstacle.

Tip: Dig deep to uncover obstacles. If your solution can address more than one customer obstacle, it increases the value your organization can deliver.

Solution

The solutions that will help the customer to overcome their obstacles and successfully implement initiatives

A solution may contain additional read-only sections of information and attachments (added by your administrator).

Tip: when an obstacle or pressure is linked with a solution, the linked solution is highlighted in the relevant insight map section when you click on the obstacle or pressure. Likewise, linked obstacles or pressures are highlighted when you click a solution.
